Skill series, course 1, 1a, 2 & 3
1-Essential Skills of Woodworking (code ESW)...... experience - none required.....
Covering the tools and equipment from hand planes, handsaws, marking devices, chisels, and workbenches. Correct procedures for tool sharpening and stock preparation. Instruction in practical techniques plus theory sessions around hand tools and hand tool work-practices, including sharpening, how to set up the tools and use them, different timber types and uses, fasteners, some joints and their uses, bench types and why they are all important to hand tools. Achieve Straight, Flat, Square, and Sharp..... every time! Project - is a bench hook to demonstrate.
1a- Essential Jigs of Hand Woodworking (code EJH)...... experience - none required.....
In addition to our Essential Skills of Woodworking, where no matter what you have done in the past, using hand tools in some instances requires some simply made jigs that will enhance the accuracy, consistency, ease, and speed of your work. We will demonstrate the reasons for and use of these jigs, and then put your hands on the tools to ensure you understand the proper technique for using them, which ones you will make and keep, and those that can be discarded. Project - is a single wine bottle box to demonstrate.
2- Journeyman (code JMA)..... experience - If you have been working by hand for a while, have a good hand saw and mark out skills - this course will suit you.
A hands-on study in the creation of joints, that will enable you to complete standard joinery, learn how these joints relate to each other, and attempt new joints successfully, enabling you to move from project to project, giving you the speed, accuracy, and safety, impossible for machines to match when producing, one-off, be-spoke builds. Project - is a small frame with muntins, using nine different joints to demonstrate.
3- Journeyman's Advanced Joinery Course (code JMT)..... experience - If you have been working by hand for a while, have a good hand saw and mark out skills - this course will suit you.
This will be the completion of the skill series, there will be the use of a majority of the skills and techniques you have learned in the first two courses. Project - is a toolbox build that can contain the core tools you have been using.
Interstate clients welcome; dates posted below. The deposit shown will secure your place, with the balance payable at the commencement of the first session. The deposit is refundable up until 14 days prior to the commencement of your classes, providing that a replacement can be found. Or any Covid 19 restrictions in force.
